Permanent Crops

People In Charge of Project: Lowell, Josie, and Nick.

The purpose of this project is to plant more permanent items such as berries and asparagus.  Currently we are working on adding a berry patch next to the composter.  Please add your comments on this project or what you would like to see in the comment section on the bottom of this page.

  1. Do we have any idea how long the garden will be available? I ask only because trees take longer to mature. I’d love to see a grove of Pine Nut trees (Pinyons – apparently Korean Pinyon Pines work well), but they take 35 years before they produce a crop of note, and 100 years before they’re “commercially viable”… So one in my garden may not be given time to mature by subsequent owners, but one in a community garden…

Hey Ian. Not sure how long the garden will be around but it sounds to me that you would like to be part of the permanent crops team!

  3. I guess I would, yes – I’ve already planted some hops against the fence, as you may know, and like the idea of establishing the garden longer-term with crops that, once they’re up and running, need little maintenance.

The Green Barn Nursery currently has the Korean Pine Nut on sale for $25. I’m trying to decide if I can face putting one in my front yard when I may move before seeing it produce nuts, and then worry about its fate forever afterwards… Anyhoo, yes, if it’s useful to have me on the team, sign me up.

  4. please i want to know the impact of permanent of crops technology
